Jesus in the Old Testament

St Augustine said it perfectly when he wrote, “The Old Testament is in the New revealed and the New is in the Old concealed.” Jesus is the focus of the New Testament, but many Christians consider the Old Testament to be irrelevant. They don’t realize that He is present in every book of the Old Testament.
The second person of the Trinity was not “Jesus” until Mary gave birth to the Saviour and named Him as she was instructed by the angel, but He existed before time. When God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness,” He spoke in the plural — the Trinity.
The Old Testament is a history of the Jewish people and why they needed a Messiah. God’s plan for Salvation was set in place in the beginning, and throughout the Old Testament Jesus appears, events foreshadow Him, and the prophets predict Him.
